At Jetts UK, we are thrilled to celebrate a significant milestone for our brand and community: winning the prestigious Member Achievement Award at the National Fitness Awards 2024!
This accolade was earned by Chris Nelson, a member of the Jetts Greengates gym, whose transformative journey embodies the brand’s commitment to making a difference in local communities.
Diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis, a chronic back condition that severely restricts movement, Chris first walked through the doors of Jetts Greengates two years ago, apprehensive and unsure of what he could achieve. At the time, he weighed 23 stone and struggled with both physical and mental health challenges. But that first visit became the turning point of his life, thanks to the supportive environment at Jetts and a warm welcome from Meesh Lewis, the gym’s Assistant Manager.
Recalling their first meeting, Meesh said: “Chris told me about his condition and how this limits what he can do physically. He explained he was nervous about the gym and being limited by his condition and his size, but from joining 2 years ago, Chris hasn’t missed ONE of my classes – he was hooked and his transformation is unbelievable. We have such a supportive community and environment at Jetts Greengates which has definitely played its part in keeping Chris coming to the gym.”
Chris’ progress has surpassed all expectations, including those of his specialist medical team. Not only has he lost 8 stone, but he has also regained confidence, mobility, and a sense of belonging.
“It was a big deal for me just to go into the gym, so to make a connection with Meesh and other members so quickly is proof of what a welcoming and inclusive space the gym is.
They’ve made me feel so welcome – the support I get from staff and members, I just love the community and environment and how much everyone has helped me. It’s made me feel much more confident and capable of doing things I never thought I could do – we have a laugh too, and all these factors have helped me stick with exercise and with Jetts.
